Lower Horsefly River Falls
Cross the Horsefly Bridge, following the road that you are on, you will come to a fork in the road by the Forest Service building. Keeping to the right, you are now on Black Creek RD. Following this road up to 129 km marking. Turn right at the little road off to the right hand side. There should be a stop sign partly seen. When you get out of the vehicle you should hear the falls. It is a little hike into the falls.

Suey Bay (Beach)
Crossing the Horsefly Bridge, you will follow this road until you reach the fork in the road by the Forest Service building. Then take a left and follow this road until you reach Horsefly Provincial Park, about 15 km. You are then able to put your boat into the water there. Once in the boat you will head to the left of the park and follow up the lake about 25-30 km. Suey Bay will be on the left hand side, with a nice sandy beach and picnicking areas.

Fitness is crucial to your success! Treeplanting is a highly repetitive job and by preparing your body for the season, you can increase your earning potential and reduce the possibility of an injury.

Start cardio training in January - This means getting active! Start simply by walking, jogging or participating in sports or classes that get your heart rate up. If you are out of shape, or haven't been involved in physical activity make sure you check with your doctor or trainer before launching into intense workouts.

Mid-February to early March start the Fit to Plant training program. Most workouts are in the 20-30 minute range, a small time investment for huge benefits! In her study, Dr. Roberts found a 12.5% increase in production for those who trained with her program than those who did not use the program. As a rookie, this could mean an extra $20/day which is $80/shift and up to $1400 OVER THE SEASON! Most importantly, there were 40% fewer injuries. Tendonitis and repetitive strains on your arms, back or knees are serious injuries - often requiring from 2-10 days of rest. This downtime could represent anywhere from $300 - $1500 of lost wages!

Start slowly in the first shift. Take the time to learn proper technique and introduce your body to carrying heavy weights and moving over uneven terrain. Be sure to drink plenty of water, stretch before and after work and eat sufficient calories to help your muscles recover.

For more information on proper nutrition while working, check out the Power Eating for Power Planting Guide.

Check out the Beginner page of the Making More Money section of treeplanter.com for on-going updates on getting off to a great start.

Be prepared for adjustments! Your foreman will work with you in the first few days of planting to ensure your shovel is the right height to be ergonomically correct for your body. Planting bags need constant adjustment as you lose weight or increase loads over the season. Educate yourself by visiting the links listed in Health & Fitness.

Email us for a list of equipment you should bring to a Dynamic contract.

We try to include an educational component at our safety meetings designed to give you the information you need to stay healthy and happy throughout the season. Let us know if you have specific questions you need answered.
